This is a summer sports announcement for junior high and high school cross country and junior high baseball and softball. For any student interested in running junior high or high school cross country, there will be an informational meeting on Friday, July 15th at 6:00 P.M. at the Cowden Park. Junior high softball practice will start on Monday, July 25th. Practices will be Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 10:00 A.M. at the Beecher City Park. Junior High baseball practice will start on Monday, August 1st. Practice for the first week will be Monday through Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M at the Beecher City Park. All players will need proof of insurance and a sports physical.

Ahoy Matey! We hope you are staying cool this summer! The Herrick Township Public Library's Summer Reading Program begins tomorrow, July 7 for our students! The library will be open Monday & Tuesday 12:00 - 6:00 pm and Thursday 9:00 - 5:00 pm. Each Thursday is Craft Day! The program ends July 28 with a prize party at 10:00 am! You may come anytime during regular Library hours. We look forward to seeing you!

Summer
The Cowden Drypoint Township Library is having a summer reading program each Monday in June. This Monday, June 13, students in grades 1 - 6 are invited to a great program from Macon County Conservation. The topic is "Reptiles"! We hope to see you from 2:30 to 3:30 pm for a great time! It will be an interesting program, good books, and refreshments. Students have an opportunity to earn points for prizes for reading books! Don't forget Monday, June 13 from 2:30-3:30 pm in Cowden!

Memorial Day
We will be welcoming home Jadon Robertson and Daniel Lucas as the high school track state champions as a team and also in individual events. They will be escorted into town from the north at 7:30 this evening. The route will go south on 128, turn east on to Christy street, then turn north on 5th, then west on to Elm street and finally return to the Cowden-Herrick High School. Please come out and cheer on these outstanding athletes. Congratulations!!

Jadon Robertson and Daniel Lucas are competing at the high school state track meet today. They are both currently doing very well and we will be welcoming them home with a parade at approximately 7:30 this evening. Further details will be sent out closer to time.

Cowden-Herrick announces Mrs. Lisa Steffen as “Staff Role Model of the Year”. The Staff Role Model of the Year is selected during the final month of the school year by the Jr. High and High School staff members. She will receive a $100 cash award donated by Aaron & Devi Hawes on behalf of Lockart and Green Funeral Services. Mrs. Steffen has taught for twenty-five years’ various grade levels from 2nd to 8th grade. She currently teaches Junior High Reading and Grammar. She has enjoyed seeing all the smiling faces this school year. There is nothing she would rather be doing for a career than teaching. She truly enjoys the students every day. She cares about her students as individuals as well as their academic success. Mrs. Steffen enjoys being outside, riding her horse, camping, taking her dog, Lady for walks as well as spending time with her family. She plans on going to Tennessee horseback riding with her husband, Joe this summer. She has three children, Paige, Matthew and Wyatt. Mrs. Steffen resides in Effingham with her husband, Joe and dog, Lady. Congratulations! We are proud to have you as a part of our team.

Cowden-Herrick announces Mrs. Kendall Fulk as “Staff Role Model of the Month of May”. The Staff Role Model of the Month is nominated each month by students, staff and community members. She will receive a $50 cash award donated by Aaron & Devi Hawes on behalf of Lockart and Green Funeral Services. Mrs. Fulk teaches High School English, is the High School Assistant Volleyball Coach, is an SIP Member and the Sophomore Class Sponsor. Her hobbies include relaxing with her dog (Rey), golfing with her husband, Justin, watching Netflix/Hulu and spending time with her family. Mrs. Fulk lives in Effingham, Illinois with her husband, Justin and her child-dog, Rey. Her parents are Mr. Kyle and Michelle Knop. We are proud to have you as a part of our team.

Cowden-Herrick teachers have named Seniors, Cooper Meek and Jadon Robertson May Students of the Month. The Students of the Month are nominated each month based on Academic Effort, Attitude, Participation/Contribution, Responsibility and Service. Junior High and/or High School students are selected each month. They each receive $25.00 donated by Community Banks of Shelby County. Cooper is the son of Jeff and Melanie Meek. His siblings are Claire, Kevin, Nick and Shawn Meek and Kerry Roll. He is a member of FFA, Spanish Club, Guitar Club and National Honor Society. Cooper is a Boy Scout and volunteer at the food pantry. His plans are to attend Eastern Illinois University for music production. Cooper plans to live an amazing life with an amazing family. Jadon is the son of Jason and Shannon Robertson. His siblings are Jaelyn Robertson and Trey Pasley. He is a member of FFA, Spanish Club, Student Council, Welding and National Honor Society. Jadon is an accomplished athlete participating in Basketball, Baseball, Track and Field. He is a member of the Free Methodist Church. Jadon’s future plans are to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale to study Ag Forestry. He will continue his love for sports and join the track and field team Cowden-Herrick motto for this year is upheld by these students: “Remember, a strong, positive self-image is the best possible preparation for success.” Congratulations Cooper and Jadon!

The elementary Awards Day is Thursday, May 19 in the gym. The 1st & 2nd grades will be given their awards from 1:00 - 1:30 pm. The 3rd - 5th grades will be at 1:30 - 2:30 pm. We hope to see you there! Enjoy your evening!
